A Chanukah Noel - A Second Story Press Review ( + Giveaway 11/10)

A beautiful pictorial story that can reach across cultures and teach children that "giving" and "sharing" doesn't have any boundaries.

I can't resist but to applaud the illustrator Gillian Newland for depicting the beauty of Christmas in a petite French village. The characters portrayed are just like real people talking to you as you read along. The illustrations make you feel that your are right next to Charlotte!

The author, Sharon Jennings takes on a journey on how a new move to France, leaves little Charlotte with having to face and live with a new language, culture and food. While she tries hard to cope with everything, there comes a joyous season which she is not sure if she can be a part of. Charlotte being Jewish, traditionally celebrates Hanukkah and has never been a part of a Christmas celebration. She sees everything around her filled with the beauty of Christmas - the lights, gifts, Christmas trees and so on! Deep down in her heart, she so wants to be a part of all that was going on around her!

Does she get to have a Christmas tree in her house? Does she get Christmas gifts? Does her dad help her to be a part of the celebration? The story has the sweetest ending that explains the true meaning of giving and sharing the love of the season

The book is beautifully bound and has a jacket. It says ages 5-9 on the cover but I read it to my 2.5 yr old and he loved the pictures and now calls it "Charlotte's Book" ! 5-9 yr olds are mature enough to understand the concepts of festivals.

Hello Esther.
I'm living in Brazil and, of course, our family traditionally celebrates Hanukkah, but here the brazilians 99.99% celebrate Christmas traditionally.

We have many non-Jewish friends and we participate too on Christmas festive in the same way, not by religious conviction, but yes because having brotherhood to help the needy and to give gifts to the poor, especially children at the orphanages.

I was happy with nomination of this wonderful book.

The Peace be upon you.

This Christmas we will be spending time with family--it's a really big deal now that our daughters have left the nest! I have been knitting scarves all year and will be donating them to a worthy cause--not an original idea, but I wanted to do something different this year too. Already a follower, and glad of it!
